Healthy Eating Award

" At Children’s Centre at The Mall we have obtained the Healthy Eating Award for 3 years running meaning we have successfully met or are working towards the following aims:

" To give children the opportunity to try an increasing variety of foods

" To provide a pleasant environment which encourages good eating habits and social interaction

" To encourage good hygiene practice. Key staff members hold basic food hygiene certificate

" To encourage a healthy "food" option or a non-food reward

" To offer "healthier choices" when providing hospitality and to consider "healthier" alternatives when birthdays and celebrations occur. To involve parents in positively promoting and establishing healthier eating practices

" To consider healthy options when food based activities are being developed e.g. cooking

" To develop a nutrition policy for the establishment which reflects the ethos of the under 5's Healthy Eating Award

 

 

" To ensure all staff will be given the opportunity to attend Nutrition Training

" To work with parents to find out their perceptions of the award and the effect it has had at home

" To develop physical activity targets which are age appropriate.

" To encourage the registration of all children with a dentist,

and ensure good oral health care from birth

" To meet nutritional guidelines for snacks, meals and drinks as produced

by the Under 5's Healthy Eating Award Group and in line with Bedfordshire Health's Food Strategy "A Taste for Health"
